Hey friends! Welcome back.

Take a quick breath with me right here. Drop your shoulders away from your ears, unclench that jaw, and let’s talk about something so many of us do without even realizing it: performing calm.

You know the vibe. On the outside, you’re smiling, handling all the things, keeping every single plate spinning like a total pro. But on the inside? Your nervous system is wearing full-body body armor, running on high alert, and tracking every micro-shift in your environment just to feel safe.

We call that hypervigilance. And spoiler alert: it is exhausting.

I want to share a quick peek into what happens when we actually drop the armor. During a recent round of The Soft Return, one participant tracked her hypervigilant protection score over seven days. On day one, she rated her protective pattern at an eight out of ten. By day seven, that number shifted all the way down to a two.

Now, hear me on this—that number isn't a magic trick or some quick-fix promise.

What actually changed? Awareness.

She started noticing how over-managing her time, micro-planning every detail, and trying to control her surroundings had quietly become her armor against feeling inadequate. Her system thought: "If I can just control everything around me, I won't have to feel uncomfortable or not enough."

Can you relate to that at all? (Because whew, I see you, and I’ve been there!)

Here’s the beauty of it: once her protection pattern had a clear name, she could finally stop fighting it—and start practicing another response instead. Not by pretending to be relaxed or forcing herself to "just chill out," but by giving her nervous system a real, gentle place to land.

When we stop performing calm and start actually giving our nervous system what it needs, everything shifts. The grip loosens. The breath comes easier. The armor comes off piece by piece.

Ready for your own soft return?

If your system is tired of holding it all together and you're ready to shift from hyper-drive into true rest, you don't have to figure it out alone.

Click here to explore The Soft Return and get seven days of practical, gentle, real-life supported change.

I'd love to walk this path with you! Drop a comment below or send me a message—how has "performing calm" shown up in your week? Let's chat!
