Revisiting My Why

Today felt good when I woke up and it still feels good. It felt and still feels promising and like the perfect day to press restart (cheesy segue I know…work with me lol).

As I shared in my newsletter about this being the month for me to restart. Over the course of the next few days and weeks, I hope to dive more into this and jump into January and February feeling focused and grounded. I’ll be honest, the last two weeks post-surgery have been challenging. Work has been demanding (in a good sense) and life has been swirling. But, this week, things are slowing down and I’m finding a calming rhythm. There is room now to sit down and unpack things.

In January’s Newsletter, I shared about pressing restart. It sounds amazing in theory, but honestly, how do we even do that? It’s easy to say you want to restart but to do it. Not the easiest. I speak for myself. I’ve been “restarting” for the last two weeks, but honestly, it’s been a blur.

But, as this week commences, I refuse to stay in this spiral. As the dust settles, I’m taking advantage of this extra time and I’m going to press restart. I’m going to first, Revisit my vision/why for this year.

Pause. What is your why? Your vision or one word? I define it as the declaration you made for these 12 months of 2023. Your why is what will sustain you when life gets crazy (and we know it does). Your why is your fire. Sometimes it is all ablaze, burning deep within you, sometimes it's a small ember that needs to be fanned whether that's reminding yourself of your why or developing routines and rhythms that gives room for it.

You see, for me, it is easy to get caught up in life and the pursuit of dreams that the vision/why gets lost. I’m busy doing all the stuff, but I’m not really “being” if that makes sense. I believe a key to pressing restart this month, is revisiting your vision, why or one word you had for the year. Take time with it. Sit with it. Reflect on what it meant to you when you wrote it down. Unpack what it has looked like in the last twelve months, and dream up how it can unfold in the next 12.

Realize that taking the time to do this empowers you to get back in the groove. You make room to do this. It won't happen randomly. It requires you to be intentional and show up. Making room for this gives you permission to figure out what it (your life, dreams, and goals) all should and can look like. As you're reflecting, maybe your word has evolved; maybe there’s more depth to it than you expected when you first thought of it. Whatever it may be, I encourage you to revisit your vision and let it breathe new life into you.

So how about it? What is your one word in January?

How has it evolved or deepened this month?

If you never defined your vision, why, or word for the 2023, what’s keeping you from doing it right now?
