Perfection is Not the Goal

How often do we yearn for perfection? For everything to be exactly the way it needs to be? How often do we yearn to control every movement of life? How often do we watch the pendulum swing between an overwhelming need for perfection and a defeated reality that it will never happen so why try?

I sing the anthem of living simply and present all while pursuing one’s heart and passions. I dance to the rhythm of creativity being brought into the everyday and not viewed as an elite gift to the select few. Even in all the singing and dancing, I find that it’s not always easy to grab a hold of all those things when life happens. It can often feel impossible.

When life rolls in like tumultuous waves it’s often hard to find peace in the chaos. When life settles in like the morning after a thunderstorm, we find it hard to accept the stillness and invite in the inactivity. We feel unproductive or lackluster. It's SOOO easy to become dissatisfied with life.

But today, today I want you to take a moment. Whether life feels unbridled right now, whether there are loads of laundry untouched or kitchens needing cleaning; whether there are more bills than money or your living situation isn’t ideal; wherever life may have you in this very moment, I want you to know that it is all possible. That you can find joy and contentment and peace amid the imperfections.

It is possible and doable for you to show up to the life you are building. It is possible to dream in the space you are in. It’s not too late. You haven’t missed it. You are so capable of doing the dang thing. You are more equipped than it feels. You have solutions and strategies. Whether they are coming all at once or feel like every blue moon, understand that you have it.

Today is not a day to strive for perfection. Perfection robs of us of finding joy in the little things. It strips us of peace and contentment. Perfection is never the goal. Perfection is not the point. Showing up? Committing yourself? Loving you and giving yourself grace? That’s the point. Life was never meant to be perfect. It was never meant to fit into the immaculate squares we create for it. No. Life was meant to overflow. It was meant to be an ebb and flow, a giving, and a sacrificing. It was meant for you to be powerful amid the chaos.  Life was meant to be lived with all its imperfections and uncertainties.

Because it’s in the living, it’s in the grounding yourself that you’ll find peace. You’ll discover the constant that keeps you going when everything else seems unsteady.
