Life is not built on highs and it’s not shaped by the once-in-a-lifetime opportunities we accept or create. Life is built in the void.

Yes, It’s forged in that in-between space where everything is the same yet different because you're different. You've changed.

Even though the void is wildly unappealing, it matters. It’s built on our day-to-day: the choices, the people, the thoughts, the feelings. And yes, it can be frustrating and slow, but it matters. It matters because it’s where we get to happen. Where we get to cultivate and shape the life that we dream of; to build something that will last longer. We don’t happen without the void. The dreams fulfilled and opportunities given are an accumulation of the life we curate in the void. This is where life unfolds. Where life breathes, and we get to show up for it.

Listen, I’m all about dreams and the pursuit and fulfillment of them but I’m also all about living in the present and seeing creativity as a part of who I am, not just something I do. It’s in the void, those slow spaces of life, that the dreams, the living, and the creating are born.

The void is slow and that’s what makes it frustrating because we live in a world where things happen overnight. It’s no longer just a thought, it’s a real thing. We see people become overnight sensations. We watch opportunities fall into the laps of those around us as we plunk along our road. So, it can be hard to accept and choose the void. But it matters. It matters that we show up for it and don’t neglect it because the void is an amazing teacher. It shows us what we are made of and where we need to grow. It invites us to celebrate our progress and build anticipation for what’s next. It’s the space where we get to build legacy and longevity. Where we discover the worth of our dreams and choose them.

I can say that the void is not glamorous. It’s founded on our choices to be persistent and intentional with our lives. Our choices to choose longevity over highlight reels and to invest in the now knowing that it builds the future.

So, yes, the void matters. It matters that we show up here and that we own our void. And of course, amazing opportunities will come. The euphoric sensations of dreams coming true will be felt. But when those moments pass, when the opportunity comes and goes, when the dream is fulfilled, what will matter is the life and character we cultivated in the void. Because who we are in the void speaks to how we will sustain.

So, choose your void because it won’t always be easy. Some days it will be hard and some days it will be monotonous. It will often look simply like you are living your life. But everyday life is an invitation to build, invest, to see differently, and choose differently. To choose to take each day as a moment to feed the dream, the creativity, and our soul. To choose to make small choices that invest and build the big picture. Because more time will be spent in the void than anywhere else, so why not make the most of it?
